Insightful wisdom

We watched the movie "Up" couple of days ago. This morning, amidst the hustle-bustle of getting ready to school, he asked with a very puzzled look, 'அம்மா, up movie ல அந்த பாட்டி dead ஆகிட்டாங்கள்ல. I was stumped. And reasoned that that's how we make up for missing people we dearly love-by doing things they care about the most.

He went on to prod, 'தாத்தா should be older than பாட்டி. Only older people die first, why did  பாட்டி die first?' That brought a conversation of sorts around how younger people can also kick the bucket, and why பாட்டி need not necessarily be younger than தாத்தா. To which he went on with all earnestness, "I know, ma, I know, always the boy in the house is bigger than the girl. I have seen everywhere. See in our house, dada is 41, you are 40"

Later, on a different context, he was intrigued about what algorithms are. He has always had the doubt as to what didI discover as a Scientist. Today, i tried explaining what algorithms are....

Later we had a conversation about why it is phrased, 'கோபம் வருது'. Its not a part of us, and it only comes from elsewhere. We need to patiently handle this monster, else it shall slowly pervade into every face of life.

Saving the best for the last: while talking about one of his friend, who is very fond of him, Bloom quips: 'actually, he is a very good boy ma. He tries to make friends with everybody by being funny and naughty, but he is often misunderstood'. On close encounters with the guy, I was kind of irritated about the boys attitude (nobody, but His highness talks to him). I went on to ask why he was friends with the guy. Prompt came the reply, "பாவம் மா அவன், யாருமே friend இல்ல, அதான் நான் மட்டும் பேசுவேன். பாவம் தான?". To such kindness, what does the other guy spit? "You are a waste fellow", spills his water bottle, and always, always trying to grab every instant of Bloom etc. Too much of kindness is not good.

Planets

In a large bubble
Of consuming darkness
Lived the family of 10:
Mom, dad, and their 8 lovely children,
Undeterred by the darkness
Uncared for the unknown,
On came a gusty wind,
Poked into the bubble
And threw the family apart

Mom burned with fury,
Determined to protect her children
She called out to them:
Listen, Dear children, dearest of my life,
This isn’t going to work:
Our continuous cuddles;
Love rather protects and secures,
Than perish together.
Love chooses courage and wisdom
Over providing and overseeing.
So, dear children, lets keep away,
Yet, I’ll extend my arms out to each of you,
Scurry around my arms,
Lest you get lost in the dark.

Mercury, babiest of you all,
Stay close, lest there is a wall
Watch me roll, and  do you.

Venus, stand close next and shine bright;
You need me more than the rest,
So, here’s your blanket, a very special strong blanket,
That draws heat from me:
My warm embrace is all you’ll need

Earth, beauty of all,
You are the child I prayed hard,
My forever pride:
You are dependently independent,
We’ll nourish a million souls,
You and I: I shall be the shine,
You shall hold them fine.

Mars, my bloody ball,
As much as you yearn to be Earth
You are unique and special,
None as red as you;
Yet, none as resourceful as you…

Jupiter, my hydrogen giant,
Calm down, baby,
For, fury brings you fall;
Your storms so strong
Will ride away aliens along

Saturn, my working-out baby
With a hula-loop on your belly
As your hula-loop gets denser
With all the dust and ice,
Slow down yourself
Lest you invite much more mass

Uranus and Neptune, my ice-giant twins,
You may be a little far-off
Yet, I bet none prod you
For you shall be covered
With blankets of methane
Over the mass of water, and Hydrogen.
Uranus, you shall be knocked, yet,
You are here to stay,
For I will hold as a fort.

Sheep in Lions clothing

Grazing by the farm, in deep fright,
Is a sheep so bleak, indolent and woolly;
The shepherd provided him day and night:
A warm place to be, sumptuous grazings and a lovely coterie,
Protected him from rain and light,
From bullies, burglars, and calamity.
The shepherd sheared him as years hit,
Exchanging the wool for a pound and penny.

In Envy of his shepherd earns,
And coveted by a lion’s brawn,
In a lion’s clothing, he pretentiously cons
Living within his league in the barn.
Munching on grass, beans and corns,
Bullying the sheep, the hen and the fawn
Lazing and harassing, harassing and lazing, he acts don,
Life is pleasure, from dawn to dusk and dusk and dawn.

Life is pleasure, for pleasures he seeks:
Transitory, instantly gratifying pleasure.
When the shepherd discerns the creaks
She shall strike to no measure;
Or the lion’s clothing he forsakes,
Notwithstanding the lonely pressures;
Time shall plan, rehearse and witness the breaks-
Spiralling down breaks, or breaks that renews and replenishes!

Drawings Galore

Shepherd and sheep. Yeah, Sheep has clouds as fur
Know not who this is, but one of my fav...

Given color pencils, we scribble.
And when amma chides, we argue that we are not interested in drawing anymore :)

Getting creative:
Too much of hearing: living organisms can protect themselves.
A turtle with spiral swords, knives, blades et al

Planets: We are crazy about planets since we were 14months :)

Lion in a Sheep's Clothing

Inside a warm, enticing sheep’s coat
Lay an ever hungry lion,
Gentle roars, little snores,
100 facets as its snares:
Each for the tigers, the cheetahs, the snakes,
And a 100 others for the humble deers, hares and frogs in the lakes,

An ever hungry lion,
That consumes, and consumes, and consumes,
Beyond measure it absorbs,
The hungry lion with multiple mask,
Ate and destroyed, Destroyed and ate
Until it stood tall, proud, unbounded and loud.

Standing tall, proud, unbounded and loud
It assumes absolute strength:
Proclaiming itself the kind king,
Beneath its glowing, beatific face, is an untold greed:
That feigns provisions to the multitude,
But, throws pennies and grabs pounds!

Feigning, absorbing and benefacting
It plays a many player game befitting,
Forgetting that Goliath was, but shot down
By a humble David and a stone
Grumbling Goliaths everywhere, Davids afew:
Crumbling the Goliaths, Davids triumph!

Fav Songs

Repeat mode on request:
1. 'சா சா.... அழகே, அழகே ...' தமிழ்ப்பாப்பா (சைவம்)
2. 'எங்க ஊரு வண்டி...' பணியாரம் பத்மினி (பண்ணையாரும் பத்மினியும்)
3. 'வெயிலோடு விளையாடி....'
And the conversations thereafter, are a treat.

(1) and (2) are the current favorite movies

Connecting Thread...

Connected by a fine thread-
A Fabric woven
Through the locking of our eyes,
A shared thought or taste,
A common interest,
A similar but different experience,
An anonymous call,
An unexpected visit together (to some place).
The thread twists and turn,
Fueled by the web of life
Abundant choices,
Mundane chores,
Or circumstantially, just by the winds.
Regardless, the thread remains,
Entangled in the ocean of the human pool:
Our togetherness stashed in memory, for life!

Whimsical 1

After the weekly Thulir sessions, the kids marched towards the exit. They were prying for the playground episode.  While on their way out, an young, friendly librarian approached the elder kids and sought their feedback. That's when our little masters pounced upon, standing in a queue, as there was only one pen at the feedback counter.

When it was his turn, our little gubber admonished the boy who was skipping the queue and forced the pen from him. Surprised as to what he was going to write, I just stood audience and watched. He picked up the paper and went on to write I followed by a symbol of the heart, I was standing in awe at how he would spell 'library', which is when he went on write 'my'. Alright, was wondering if the word is coming. Much to my loud laughter, it was 'mom'

So, ladies and gentlemen, we have just announced the public at the public library that we love mom :) :)
