The flickering light and the feeble hum-overshadowed by the mass being

In the beginning, it was all dark. Nothing. NOTHING. Nothing to even realize that there was nothing. It was DARK. DARK as DARK. Starking DARK. A dark nothing. A nothing dark. Pitch dark in the nothing, and an absolute nothing in the darkness. Just nothing. ABSOLUTE NOTHING- absolutely immeasurably nothing.

From the darkness grew a tiny – tiniest dot of grey looming brighter into a tiny dot of brightness. There was a very small flickering, there was a feeble, very very feeble hum. This tiny flickering, feeble hum wanted to explore the absolutely dark nothing. No matter where it moved in the large large dark nothing, it lighted the darkness. It tried jumping, hopping, rolling over, flowing around, shrinking and expanding – no matter what it did, it lighted the dark nothing.

This tiny flicker with a feeble hum wanted to make the dark nothing into “something”. So, it split into two. And found that it was still the same flicker with a feeble hum. Two splitting into four – each of them a tiny flicker with a feeble hum. They thus split, and “saw” something in the dark nothing. Invisibly connected, they shared their parts of the dark nothing. And they all jumped, hopped, rolled over, flowed around, shrank and expanded.

As they all jumped and hopped and rolled over and flowed around and shrank and expanded, they hit into each other. Hitting into each other, they got swells and bulges. And they cracked. Cracked and split, and split and cracked. Splitting and cracking, they began to fill in the darkness, and found that it was nice- nice to stay together, and light the dark nothing.
Together they stayed, and together they grew. Growing into a vastness – a vastly flickering light with a feeble hum amidst the looming dark nothing. And they stretched – elastic and gentle, they stretched. Tiny pockets of flickering light with a feeble hum. Each tiny flicker so tiny, with a very very feeble hum.

As they illuminated parts of the dark nothingness, they grew in parts, expanded and gained “mass”. With mass became “beings”. The new found mass was too much to carry around, so the splits helped. There were now tiny pockets of the flickering lights with feeble hum in tiny pockets of masses. The mass grew heavy with the spreading flicker and feeble. The flickering light and feeble hum were thrown back, with the heaviness of the mass! Yet, the flickering light and feeble hum got attached to the mass, and pleaded noticing – to no avail. The mass was too bloaty and bleaty, and completely ignored the flickering light and feeble hum, assuming absolute power. Little did the mass realize that the reason for it to exist are the flickering light and feeble hum. Sooner it realizes, better is the state of the once dark nothing, out of which the flickering light, feeble hum and the heavy mass came into being.

Whimsical 6: The home gets digital

I have fallen in love with this lockdown, and this working from home is getting increasingly interesting with the day.

Since day 1, I have been attending meetings, and the kiddo is very curious about what these meetings are. He would silently sneak into the room, where I lock myself into for meeeting (finding the key and opening the door himself). He would promise to sit silently next to me, and stays silent- until it's my turn to speak. I largely keep myself muted, and the moment I unmute to speak, he is all excited- sings songs, murmurs music and all kinds of nautanky.

Then started his online classes. Initially he complained of sore eye etc., but later he was too excited to even notice if there was a sore eye. There was a constant competition- 'amma, how many participants in your meeting? What? Only 8? My meeting has 30 participants. I won'. There was a boring HR briefing once, where the whole organisation of 400+ participants were on my meeting. He couldn't quite take the fact that there could be 400participants in a meeting, and our boys ego was hurt that he has only 30+ participants.

I enjoy his company through the day, and my actual work (besides meetings) happen mostly in the late nights. And as most conversations happen over whatsapp, he is curious as to what I converse on. Thanks to the newly acquired reading skills, he keeps peeping into my monitor/mobile to check on what I have been typing. One night a colleague and I were having a very interesting conversation. In the middle of the conversation, I excused myself and typed,'let me put kiddo to sleep and reply back', without realizing he was watching. He immediately retorted, 'Oho, you're going to chat after I sleep?', much to my amusement.

All attempts to put him to sleep in the night are in vain. On closer inspection, we realize he keeps himself wide awake just to watch these conversations and my slide preps. His biggest grouse these days are that Amma types so fast, while he hasn't been able to. He's started on creating slides and practising typing. Ha ha!

Whimsical 5: When a woman in formal suit became a record dancer

He started drawing a woman in formal suit, as instructed by the online instructor. Half way through, he claimed that he was going to draw a dancer. Then, he made it a dance show. Only that I don't know where he saw a record dance performance.

What I loved most was the great attention to details. Don't miss the snake wound around the tree. The kiosk, and the flying eagle (probably, to take the snake), and the huge crowd watching the show....Oh, and the door behind the dancer - it is the make-up room, you see!
