Transformations

We were in a very fortunate, opportune times in history. Our previous generation had a heavy load of building livelihoods of their families immediately after independence-most of their childhood, adolescence and youth were spent planning for the family, hardly ever differentiated between three meals as a child. Most of their adulthood was spent building a roof over their heads, that's when most of us were born. We saw most houses grow from thatched roof to ottu veedu to concrete roofs; we saw most vehicles transform from being hand rickshaws and maatu vandi to cyclists to car owners; we saw a lot of transformation among the middle class-families climbing up from lower and lower middle class to upper middle class. With these transformations, we created our own games and had fun. Most of our games came from the environment around us. One of the most prevalent game was to build houses out of sand heaped on the streets, where the salaried class were building their dream houses. While we enjoyed the transformation, we also were very fortunate to be connected with the old world. We've walked through fields, played like buffalos on rural roads. This generation is severely spoilt by the abundance of opportunities, and lack of resources. When I saw this box at the Science Centre recently, there was a huge yap.
