Woes of a child with an ignorant parent.

Saturday was heavy with the athletics class in the morning and art class in the evening. In between, you wanted to visit the Firefly park and you had a whale of time chasing grasshoppers with your fishing net. You caught a couple of them, held them in your hand and prided yourself in your skill.

Your art class is getting more challenging - with a new mode of art this year. Your artwork of sheep this week was clumsy. I was so tired after a long day (including a grocery shopping while you were in your art class) and rained it down all on you. We remained silent throughout the taxi ride on the way back. At home, we had a long conversation. You agreed to practise, and we went back to sleep peacefully.

On Sunday, I texted your art teacher asking for a time to speak. The kind soul immediately called me. When I raised my concerns, he reassured, "This year will be verrrry difficult for him as he is getting his skill on a new art mode. It is verry difficult for all kids to acquire a new mode of art. First they need to know how much of paint and how much of water to use and how to adjust the proportion of water and color in doing the different parts of the artwork." Then he gave a very clear analogy for me to understand, "It is like learning a new language or learning to write. It will take time, and I am especially very strict because I want my students to be the best wherever they are". As he spoke, I felt guilty for raining you on the previous day.

The woes of childhood, when the parent is ignorant of the challenges in a new domain.
